Textbooks are an important part of instruction and curricula. Often, textbooks are the main way students learn the course content. Textbooks need to evolve. Many are too expensive, unengaging, lack diversity, present limited perspectives, aren’t relatable, and are uninspiring. Outside of school, students learn via video, interactive images, games, virtual reality, augmented reality, apps, curated boards, infographics, gifs, annotated stories, tweets, posts, snaps, and podcasts. Textbooks need a digital makeover! In my new book, Hacking Digital Learning Strategies: 10 Ways to Launch EdTech Missions in Your Classroom, students are sent on the mission to create engaging multimedia content for a digital version of the textbook. Not only do students take ownership of their learning, but they also revamp their textbooks and design engaging materials for peers! Join us every Sunday on Twitter for the #EdtechMissions chat (10am to 10:30amET; click for more time zones) where we share ideas and resources or contribute ideas to our Flipgrid chat.
